A B-2 Spirit stealth bomber will make a rare appearance Sunday in the Town of Byron.

Fond du Lac native and retired naval intelligence officer Lt Commander Ron Roen worked with Byron’s Don Whitty and “Team Whiteman” Air Force Base, Missouri, to arrange the flyover for 1 p.m. Sunday, May 20th.

The event is designed to pay tribute to active duty service members It is part of Armed Forces Day ceremonies at Byron Town Hall Veterans Memorial.

The ceremony begins at 12:30 p.m. Sunday. After the flyover, Wisconsin Gold Star Mothers will be recognized and presented with a yellow rose.

Executive Assistant Michael Trepanier, a Fond du Lac native, will represent the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs. Trepanier served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves for five years. While on active duty, he served in the 1st Calvary Division and was deployed in Operation Iraqi Freedom II for 14 months.

Roen said while the B-2 supports large venues – Green Bay Packers games or the Daytona 500 NASCAR race – the B-2 also supports small communities like Byron. He said the last time he was able to arrange for a B-2 flyover was in 2003 in Sheboygan.
